The autopilot operates by means of three gyroscopic sensors. The gyroscopes control the three variables in aircraft positioning: yaw, pitch and roll. It pilots the aircraft automatically by sustaining a pre-recorded course. The autopilot also gives additional information such as the required altitude and speed.
The autopilot works in conjunction with an airborne computer to activate the flight servomotors. The servomotor's function is to make the necessary corrections during autopilot flight. In addition, there is a radar or radio link to the computer, allowing ground control of automatic landings if neccessary.
